This is one of the few restaurants in Sydney that serve Jilin cuisine from Dongbei in China. And honestly, it feels like you’re in China. It is such a vibe inside.
.
Jilin Family’s specialty is the iron pot cauldron. These have to be pre-ordered and this one had cockerel chicken, hazel mushrooms and potatoes and they cook the buns on the side of the iron pot It is so tasty and the flavour goes right through the meat and vegetables. The buns have a crispy base and soak up that sauce.
.
Everything that we tried was so good, including this candied sweet potato which you have to eat within the first five minutes or it will set hard.
.
One of the signature dishes is the crispy pork that is dipped in a sticky flour batter and deep fried until super crispy with a vinegar sauce. There is also north eastern Chinese sauerkraut with potato noodles. They even stuff their dumplings with this sauerkraut and pork.
.
There’s also lots of vegetable dishes like onion with shredded compressed tofu or stir fried black fungus and Chinese cabbage. The serves were so generous and it was $50 a person and we had amazing leftovers.
